Sholay 3D Boxoffice Total Collection – Hit or Flop?

The new format of the most iconic Bollywood film, Sholay 3D has not made a very good comeback. The movie was released on Friday, 3rd January. So far in two days, the Sholay 3D total collection is ₹3.75 crores. The movie got an Ok opening at first day and collected ₹1.50 crore, however its business pumped up on second day, and the Sholay 3D collected ₹2.25 crore on Saturday. So, the 2 days collection has now reached to ₹3.75 crore in domestic market, i.e only India business. The collection is likely to improve more on Sunday and the weekend collection could be around ₹6- ₹7 crore.

This action dram film did a good business in Delhi, UP, Bihar and Mumbai circuit.

Sholay 3D Hit or Flop

Maya Digital Studios has worked on to convert the film to 3D format. The presenter of the movie, Jayantilal Gada, chairman, Pen India Pvt Ltd has spent approx ₹25 crore to make the 3D version of Sholay 3D. This includes the restoration, conversion and marketing of the movie. Maya Digital Studios have done a good work and you don’t regret wearing 3D goggles while watching the movie. It tool 2 years to the studio to convert original Sholay into 3D format.

The film is nicely converted into 3D format, as it seems like colors are in the air, when in song “Holi Ke Din” colors are thrown.  There are also some more scenes, in which you see good 3D scenes.

It will be too early to say whether the film is Hit or Flop. The film is made on a budget of ₹20 to ₹22 crore, and the weekend collection is likely to be around ₹6-₹7 crore, so it will be difficult for makers of Sholay 3D to earn a good profit from the movie. Right now, the makers will be just thinking to at least get back the making amount i.e ₹20-₹22 cr, and if they earn these amounts then the rest will be a bonus for them.

The original Sholay was made on a budget of 4 crore and had collected approx ₹35 crores, wich is almost 9 times profit.

Sholay was released in nearly 4 decades ago, back in 1975. The films starred Amitabh Bachann, Dharmendra, Hema Malini, Amjad Khan. The film was directed by Ramesh Sippy.

A still from Sholay

Apart from Sholay 3D, Mr. Joe B Carvalho and Dhoom 3 are also running at box office, so the way for Sholay 3D is not easy, and we will have to wait for at least few more days to know whether the movie is Hit or Flop.
